"Time and space died yesterday. We already live in the absolute, because we have created eternal, omnipresent speed."

- Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, "Manifesto," 1909

Futurism

Futurism emerged in Italy in the early 1900s. Its aim was to express the energetic, dynamic and violent quality of contemporary life, especially as embodied in the motion and force of modern machinery. Its manifestoes encourage rebellion, glorify war, and encourage its followers to "throw out the horrible shell of wisdom and throw oneself to the wind."
